Mitsuya Cider is made using a method that does not involve heating the contents for sterilization. For carbonated beverages containing fruit juice or milk, which serve as a nutrient source for bacteria, sterilization is necessary. By avoiding the use of heat, the refreshing taste is further enhanced.
Mitsuya Cider greatly emphasizes water quality, meticulously filtering it through activated charcoal, microfilters, and ceramics to remove impurities. Only water adjusted to a specific range of mineral content (hardness) within 255mg/l (soft water) is used. This process improves the compatibility with carbonation.
Mitsuya Cider has developed its own blend called “Mitsuya Cider Flavor,” which extracts scents from fruits such as lemon and lime and combines them uniquely. Recent technological advancements have enabled the use of fragrances derived solely from fruits and plant-based ingredients.

Product History

In 1881, the production of carbonated water began from the Hirano mineral spring. In 1884, it was first sold under the name “Hirano Water.” By 1897, it was designated as a royal product for the Imperial Palace (later used by Emperor Taisho). In 1907, “Mitsuya” branded “Hirano Champagne Cider,” made with cider flavor essence, was introduced. In 1952, the product was named “Full Sugar Mitsuya Champagne Cider,” and in 1968, the name “Champagne” was dropped, officially becoming “Mitsuya Cider.” Although today it is a colorless and transparent beverage, initially, Mitsuya Cider had a slightly yellowish hue.
